Tips on what to Wear for your Pro Portrait Session

What to Wear for a Photo Session?

Your photo session is right around the corner and you are not sure what color to wear or what color looks good on you, so you choose Black. Now, if everyone is wearing Black and you post your photo on LinkedIn or a social media site, guess what? Your image will blend right in with everyone else’s and you will be looked over. Their will be no WOW that’s different! A common mistake most people when going into a photo shoot. Picking out the right outfit is important and Andrews Photography can help.

First, figure out what kind of background you most desire, white is in right now and lit by the sun is the way to go. If you are wearing black and the background is white your body will look heavy. Easy fix, wear a solid color so the viewer focuses on your face.
Background choice number two, pick a color or light grey. If your hair is thinning this is a great go too solution. This will help to create mass hair and the center of focus again is the eyes and face.
Background option number three, if you have a company color try to incorporate that color in the photo with the use of a secondary color or object. Out of focus backgrounds digitally dropped in are pretty hot right now see our website for examples of this technique. http://www.Andrews-Photography.comexample black and colored outfit commercial photo tips on what to wear copy

Both Great photos pictured above but the one on the right will get noticed in a sea of other people wearing black. Photos from IAAP event we did last night.

The outfit is easier than you think, please don’t ask your mom, unless she happens to be Dawn Stebbing.

• Ask a friend to give you some idea’s of what they thought were your best colors you wore in last couple of months.
2. Ask a co-worker the same thing
3. Try a professional like Dawn Stebbing or a personal shopper at “Nordstrom’s”.
4. Look at your hair if its dark you may want to try ranges of cool reds, warm purples, medium blues
5. Medium blondes go with blues, greens, corals, or even a gray top on a white or light grey background.
6. Everyone, solid colors are best, layer with a scarf or wear pearl earrings for a classy touch, less is more.
7. Don’t forget your tans and browns if you choose one of these, layer it with something colorful under or over it.
8. Guys bring extra sets of everything and don’t forget dark socks, (leave the white ones at home).

Colors are a extension of your personality, keep in mind your main focus of a personal image used for business is. The image should say I am fun to be with and I know what I am doing in my chosen profession.

Ask yourself this while looking at your old photo,  Would I be willing to work alongside or with this person in a small room.

Cafeteria while people celebrated.Andrews Photography

What Hmong College Prep Academy is about, free tuition for students, all day everyday Kindergarten a freshly cooked breakfast and lunch for ALL students, busing for all with door-to-door pick-up/drop off for students in grades K-8 (Twin Cities & select suburbs), Uniforms provide consistency among students, Convenient St. Paul location, just off Snelling by the State Fairgrounds, 8 AM to 3 PM school day, 30% of staff members fluent in Hmong for non-English speakers. 3. To get the shine bring a small brush to coat lettuce or food with oil, if you have the budget hire a food stylist

4. Light from the back and reflect the light back into an on the plate

5. Use a tripod and focusing rail if you can

Creative Corporate Portraits, On location, Andrews Photography

Creative Corporate Portraits,

Staff photos of Miller Law office. Great bunch of people. We did two sets of portraits one in the office and one here in the lobby. Great light and Company colors on the wall so it was a instant hit. We had some bad light with over head cans and cold outside blue light coming in. So to fix that we added a bit of man made electronic flash with a modifier attached. Great balance of natural, ceiling and man made light. Thanks to the staff for having your office ready and so many great outfits to pick from. Your going to really enjoy your portraits for years to come.

Ditto and Co with Andrews Photography

Do you ever wonder why some photos look fantastic and others are just ho hum? Now you can stop settling for ho hum through a partnership between Andrews Photography and Ditto & Co.

Gretchen Ditto, of Ditto & Co, is a certified image consultant and style advisor who can help you figure out how to make that professional photo stand out. Gretchen is technically trained in color and fit and uses that training to help her clients go from ho hum to HELLO!

Disclosure: Gretchen Ditto is an extremely satisfied client of Andrews Photography! Gretchen used Andrews Photography as she was launching her business and has used them again as her own image transformation required a new head shot. Rod, of Andrews Photography, took the time to help Gretchen create a photography that represented her professional brand, which is imperative to have in this world of on-line communication.

Tips for a Great Photo:
Makeup: For men, the most you need is powder to keep the shine down. For women, I suggest you wear 50% more than you usually wear. Think of it as a theatre performance. Actresses always wear a lot more makeup than they would on the street, but it’s so the audience can see them. Same goes for photographs—wear more than usual and you’ll look great in your photos. My secret tip: I’ve recently started wearing ‘Redness Reduction’ makeup from Clinique. I love it and I think it’s made a huge difference in my recent head-shot session.

Color to Match Eyes: Wear something that matches your eyes, including both the color of your irises and the whites of your eyes. This combination will make your eyes ‘pop’.

Wear a Jacket: A jacket will give you more structure and a ‘presence’ when it comes to your professional photo. This goes for both men and women. If you’re in more of a creative field you can still wear a jacket, but it doesn’t have to be a suit jacket. For example, check out my photo on http://www.dittoandco.com

Stand up: Think about it—do you have more energy when you stand or sit? When you stand, of course! Have your photographer take photos while you’re standing or leaning against something. Your photos will seem to show a more authentic you.

Laugh/Smile: While on the way to your photo shoot or during the photo shoot listen or think of something that makes you happy. While serious photos send a message of professionalism, a photo that makes you look friendly and approachable will get you that next job or promotion towards which you’ve been working.

Need Help? We’d love to help you take your photo from Ho-Hu to HELLO!
